When I showed my boarding pass, she finally opened her eyes slightly and motioned for me to squeeze past her. I paused and said calmly, “I’m not the one getting in—you are.” She seemed surprised, then quietly moved toward the window without saying a word.
As the plane finished boarding and the engines began to hum, the tension between us lingered in the silence.
